Washington Has No Shortage of Ballrooms

The Willard celebrates 40 years since its grand reopening

Washington has never suffered from a shortage of ballrooms. For generations, presidents, diplomats and distinguished guests have gathered beneath glittering chandeliers to dine, dance and discuss the affairs of the nation.

Few hotels have played a more prominent role in this tradition than the Willard, just two blocks from the White House.

Its celebrated Crystal Room recalls the splendour of Washington society, while the hotel's elegant ballrooms continue to host state occasions, diplomatic receptions, weddings and grand celebrations.

In 2026, the Willard marks the 40th anniversary of its remarkable reopening on 20 August 1986. After 18 years of closure, an extensive restoration returned one of America's most historic hotels to its former glory.

Today, the Willard remains one of Washington's great gathering places.

Presidents come and go. The chandeliers of the Willard continue to shine.
