Half Moon

In 1954, a group of wealthy individuals including Donald Deskey, the fabled designer (among his works the Radio City Music Hall); Harvey Firestone, Jr. of The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company; Richard Reynolds of the Reynolds Metal Company and Jamaican Bauxite Company; oil and real estate entrepreneur Curtis Steuart and Mrs Laurence Armour of U.S. meat packaging giant Armour Packing Company, chose to build an exclusive vacation resort on a perfectly shaped crescent beach, that they aptly named 'Half Moon'.

In 1952, a group of adventurous individuals including Donald Deskey, designer of Radio City Music Hall; Harvey Firestone, Jr. of The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company; Richard Reynolds of the Reynolds Metal Company and Jamaican Bauxite Company; oil and real estate entrepreneur Curtis Steuart and Mrs. Laurence Armour of U.S. meat packaging giant Armour Packing Company, chose to build an exclusive vacation resort on a perfectly shaped crescent beach, that they aptly named "Half Moon."

In 1954, Half Moon Golf, Tennis & Beach Club officially opened with seventeen whitewashed cottages overlooking Half Moon Bay, and 30 beachfront homes. That same year Half Moon Golf, Tennis & Beach Club opened with seventeen cottages overlooking Half Moon Bay. In 1963, top hotelier Heinz Simonitsch was lured away from Bermuda's exclusive Elbow Beach Hotel to join Half Moon as Managing Director, and since then, the small resort has flourished under his watchful eye. Today, the mantle is passed to Richard Whitfield, who, along with his experienced team dedicated to creating and maintaining the highest levels of service that discerning guests expect from this elegant, world-class resort. Throughout the years, Half Moon expanded and added on rooms, first through cleverly converting existing facilities and then through construction.

In 1979 Half Moon acquired the neighboring Colony Hotel and the building was transformed into villas. Simonitsch's passion for excellence led to the development of the Royal Villas in 1994. A new concept in luxury vacationing began with the construction of five-, six- and seven-bedroom villas with landscaped gardens, private pools, and dedicated service staff at guests' disposal. The Half Moon Shopping Village and conference facility was also added in 1994.

Today, the 400-acre Half Moon ranks among the most popular and complete resorts in the Caribbean. Guests may choose to reserve any of the resort`s elegantly appointed 419 guest rooms, suites or villas, all with ocean and/or garden views.
