The Oberoi Cecil
The Oberoi Cecil is a hotel of grand heritage. It opened as a hotel in 1902 and plays an important role in the personal story of the Oberoi family.
It is situated at Chaura Maidan, Shimla, 7000 feet up in the Himalayas, the elegant summer and winter retreat of India.
The Cecil is very much a part of Shimla's colonial history. The hotel has been restored to its original grandeur with wood floors, period furniture, crackling fires and an inviting ambience. Built around a beautiful atrium, the rooms offer splendid views of the mountains and valleys.
The Oberoi Cecil is a perfect base from which to explore the spectacular
mountain scenery, cedar forests and ancient monasteries of this world
famous destination.
The Hotel is situated on the Mall, a pedestrian-only road in Shimla. (The Mall is where most of the shops, etc., are located.)
The Hotel is centrally heated in winter, air-conditioned in summer and
just 10 minutes from Shimla Station and 45 minutes from Jubbarhatti
Airport. Flights from Delhi arrive daily.
Built in 1884 as a Himalayan hill station, it was turned into a hotel in 1902. The hotel has been extensively renovated and reopened in 1997.
