1928: In the so-called roaring twenties –or ‘les années folles’ (the ‘crazy years’) as the French call them- The Royal Monceau opened for business. It had 265 rooms, each with its own bathoom, as well as an array of private lounges. There was also a hairdressing salon, a bridge room, a table-tennis and billiards room and, completing the impressive new hotel, a bar and tearoom.
1945: After World War II, Allied military leaders Eisenhower and Montgomery stayed here.
1989-92: French pop legend Michel Polnareff lived at the hotel
