"Hans Bilstein gives 8 Schilling 3 Pfennig from his Sessgut, 9 Schilling from a Gut, that's called the Schwäbling Gut, 9 Pfennig from his interest from a Stuckle, with which he here buys the Zartenhof. 1638: The records show that in this year the Adler was burned to the ground during the 30 year war (1618- 1648). It was then rebuilt in 1639 and this building still stands to this day. Originally the Adler was a farm estate with 80 hectare of woods and fields with a farmers pub next to the old church "Maria in the Zarten" of which had been written as early as the 12th century. Until 1870 Hinterzarten and the old Adler belonged to Austria to which the old pub sign attests. 1770: Marie Antoinette, Queen of France- daughter of Maria Theresia and Franz I of Austria is to be married to the Dauphin of France in Paris. For her journey from Vienna to Paris the road through the "Höllental" (Hells Valley) was built and it is most certain that she stayed the night or was at least a guest of the Adler which at that time also acted as the Post station. 1810: Marie Louise, Empress of France- daughter of Emperor Franz II is to be married against her will to Napoléon. After Napoléons fall from power Marie Louise left Paris and returned to Vienna to meet her son the duke of Reichstadt. Her journey from Paris to Vienna led her through the Höllental (Hells valley) and on this occasion Marie Louise was a guest at the Adler Post station in Hinterzarten. 1904: Through-out the course of time the appearance of the Parkhotel Adler has often changed due to additional buildings and renovating. In addition to the "Schwarzwaldhaus" (Black Forest House) built in 1639 with its restaurants and typical Black Forest rooms and suites the "Haupthaus" (Main House) with its lobby was added in 1904. 1978: The Adler expanded once again. The "Schwarzwaldhaus" (Black Forest House) 1639 and the "Haupthaus" (Main House) 1904 were joined in 1978 by the "Residenz" with its spacious conference rooms and luxurious suites and junior suites. 1999: a new Wellness Pavilion is opened; a paradise for rejuvenation and relaxation where no wish is left ungranted (pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam-room, fitness room, solarium, scented rain showers, herbal massage baths, hair dressers, beauty treatments, rooms for massages a, ...)
