The Hotel Monc Blanc in Megève has been running since 1880 and lived its heyday in the years after World War II when the likes of Jean Cocteau made it a home away from home. Today it has established a reputation for itself as one of the premier hotels in this part of the Alps and is worth a visit for its spa alone.

1880: The hotel opened its doors for business.
1949: New owner Georges Boisson gave the hotel a new lease of live by making some noteworthy improvements: a sauna, a massage parlour and beauty building room. Jean Cocteau, the "Prince of Poets”, saw to the decoration of the bar, rechristened, which was "Les Enfants Terribles". Cocteau later dubbed the hotel ‘the 21st arrondissement of Paris’.
That year, the hotel staged extra-special Christmas celebrations that made the news as far away as Paris. Jean Prouvost, the boss of Paris-Match magazine, sent the photographer Roger Vadim, who arrived with his two friends Leslie Caron and Christian Marquant.
1950s: The hotel delighted famous French comic Fernandel and his family, who established there summer headquarters here.
1994: The hotel was acquired by Jocelyne and Jean-Louis Sibuet
2007: The hotel is today part of the Compagnie des Hôtels de Montagne.

Megève is famous for its skiing. People have been practising the sport here since about 1913 but it really took off in the 1920s under the impetus of Baronne Noémie de Rothschild. By the 1950s Megève was one of the most popular ski resorts in Europe and a favourite playground for celebrities. The resort has a skiable area of 8 km² and an uppermost point of 2350 metres.
The hotel has a spa, complete with sauna, jacuzzi and heated swimming pool.
