In 1903 Mr Giacomo Costa had decided to transform his private villa into a
hotel, giving the management to the Kuoni-Stoppani family, who were the founders of
one of the oldest European (Swiss) travel agencies. This is how the
Miramare soon became one of the first Grand Hotels on the Portofino
