Equinox

The roots of today's 1,300-acre resort go back to 1769 in the form of The Marsh Tavern. The owner, William Marsh, chose to side with the British. His two-story building was the first Tory property to be seized in support of independence. Today it serves as one of the fine restaurants we enjoy. Held by a series of owners and improved over time, there were 17 major architectural changes -- in six distinct styles -- that have taken place through the hotel's history. In 1863, The Equinox was visited by Mrs. Abraham Lincoln and her two sons, solidifying its reputation as "the premier summer resort" of the day. In 1972 it was named to The National Register of Historic Places. Francesco Galesi took over the hotel two years later, and after years of careful planning and an extensive restoration, the resort re-opened to year-round vacationers in 1985. Purchased in 1991 by Equinox Resort Associates, it has been revitalized and modernized to surpass the expectations of even the most seasoned traveler. Today,through a joint effort between Equinox Resort Associates and Olympus Real Estate, The Equinox has been included in a collection of resorts known as RockResorts. Vail Resorts is the Management Company.
