August 12, 2003 Historical Castle Hotel Re-Opens Nairobi, Aug 12, 2003 (The East African Standard/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- A Mombasa town's landmark, Castle Hotel built in 1927, re-opened on Saturday, but operations began yesterday and will be confined to Ashanti Cafe and Ivory Bar. Two investors, Sergio Lieman, the Spanish honorary consul in Mombasa and Umberto Bianchi pumped in Sh45 million for renovation. The duo said opening of the Ashanti Cafe and Ivory Bar was a beginning of business for the hotel located along Moi Avenue. The second phase of renovation will include a Pizzeria and Banking Hall with the third being hotel rooms. Local Government Minister, Karisa Maitha, officiated at the opening ceremony. He hailed the two investors for showing confidence in Kenya and assured that the Government was committed to ensuring an enabling environment for business.
