Grand Hotel Kvarner-Amalia

Surrounded by a lush botanical garden, this is the one of the great historic Croatian hotels on the Adriatic coast. Opened in 1884, it was favoured by the Austro-Hungarian nobility. Emperor Francis Joseph met the Kaiser Wilhelm II. here. The Romanian Royal couple resided in the hotel and dancer Isadora Duncan enjoyed the hospitality of a bygone era. However, the hotel itself is more alive than ever before. Revived and renovated it survives today as a 3* hotel, facing the problems of many listed historic hotels: it is protected under various building acts and therefor necessary renovations, changes and extensions to make it truly profitable are not permitted.
