Grand Hotel Huis Ter Duin

The hotel provides the public with little information about its history. Our team researches the hotel's past, from the very beginning, verifying its exact opening date and providing an overview of its history up to the present day.?If you have any useful information and would like to share it, please send it to archives@famoushotels.org.?Thank you This is what we know so far (attention: unverified history!): Back in 1880, the local population of Noordwijk depended entirely on the fishing industry. The village's mayor, Mr Pické, however, felt the village had much more to offer. Consequently, Pické cut the first sod in 1883 on the top of the dunes, the place where the Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin was to rise. 1885: Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin first opened its doors in 1885. Over its first decades members of the Dutch as well as the Belgian Royal Families visited, as did artists and actors. The hotel was sold and sold again. Heinrich Tappenbeck, who had made his fortune in the textile trade, bought the Huis ter Duin Resort with 6 hectares of land in 1887. Tappenbeck's Huis ter Duin focused mainly on guests of standing. Members of the Dutch as well as the Belgian Royal Families visited, as did artists and actors. A great deal has changed since the hotel's renovation, although "the Grandeur" has remained. The hotel was sold and sold again in the sixties and became the property of a company looking to demolish the entire complex to realise a new project. These plans were rejected by the municipal council, after which the hotel was sold to the present owner. Following a renovation and an extension, the hotel was reopened in 1984 by Princess Margriet, counting 90 hotel rooms, 93 studios, 9 conference rooms, restaurants, a night club and a fitness room. A large part of the hotel was destroyed by fire in January 1990. The renovation of the hotel centred on designing an efficient and optimally secure hotel with stature, which would meet the highest standards of both congress and individual guests. Optically, Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin can be separated into two parts: the Grand Hotel and the Nouvel Hotel. The original Grand Hotel survived the fire of 1990. The hotel wing has five floors, four of which with hotel rooms. The Nouvel Hotel was built after the fire. This hotel wing comprises eleven floors, nine of which with hotel rooms.
