Donbass Palace

The hotel provides the public with little information about its history. Our team researches the hotel's past, from the very beginning, verifying its exact opening date and providing an overview of its history up to the present day. If you have any useful information and would like to share it, please send it to: [email protected] Thank you This is what we know so far (attention: unverified history!): The opening date of the hotel is not confirmed. The Donbass Palace is considered to be part of the architectural heritage of the Donbass region and was originally built in 1938. The architects N. Rechanik and A. Shuvalova designed the original building whilst N. Porhunov revised the proposed project and added the final details. During WW II it was the Gestapo Headquarter. During World War Two the hotel was partly destroyed and was reconstructed between the period 1947-1949. However, due to lack of funds, the original architectural grandeur was not maintained. In 1971 the Institute of Donbass Civil Engineering projects carried out some restoration works and during the period from 1996 to 1999 it's restaurant was closed and a few of the hotel rooms were rented out as offices to local businesses. 62 years later the management of the Football Club Shakhtyor recommended the demolition of the existing building and the reconstruction of the entire hotel to its original features, including the previously eliminated cupola, restoring to Donetsk its cultural heritage and providing the city with its first five star hotel. 2004, 15 May: the hotel reopens, a jewel of Ukraine. The Palace is 52 meters in length, 44 meters in width and 34 meters in height and spreads over 5 stories and a basement level. The Hotel has been designed to impress the most discerning guests. Great attention has been given to the furnishing in the bedrooms to ensure maximum comfort and luxury.
