The hotel provides the public with little information about its history. Our team researches the hotel's past, from the very beginning, verifying its exact opening date and providing an overview of its history up to the present day.?If you have any useful information and would like to share it, please send it to [email protected]?Thank you This is what we know so far (attention: unverified history!): When it opened, The Great Southern Fireproof Building and Opera House was hailed as an "elegant sall city". There were over 200 guest rooms, great parlors for entertaining, a ballroom, a 1200 seat theater, restaurants, residential space, a barber shop, a sauna,( sad to have been Tedy Roosevelts favorite), and a rooftop garden. An inhouse power plant made the Great Southern one of the first electrified buildings in Columbus. Today in the National Register of Historic Places.
