History Danieli Present Danieli

Danieli

In 1822, Giuseppe Dal Niel, nicknamed "Danieli" was able to rent a part of the palazzo, built in the 13 century by Doge Enrico Dandolo, transforming it into a hotel. He founded the Hotel Royal, which also came to be known by his name "Danieli".

It was at the end of 1300, that under Doge Enrico Dandolo, the magnificent Palazzo Dandolo was built. It became the noblest of all palazzi, a favourite place to stay for kings, pninces, cardinals and ambassadors, passed from the Dandolo family to the Gritty family and then from the latter to the Mocenigo and Bernardi families.

So it was in 1822, that Giuseppe Dal Niel, nicknamed "Danieli" was able to rent a part of the palazzo, transforming it into a hotel. He thus founded the Hotel Royal, which also came to be known by his name "Danieli". Soon he bought the whole palazzo, and it became host for guests as King William of Prussia, Dickens, Wagner, Balzac, Proust, Greta Garbo, Charlie Chaplin, George Sand together with Alfred de Musset (room 10).
