Hotel Sacher Wien 1860-Kaerntnerthort.Colour

The old imperial Hofoperntheater was called the Kärntnerthortheater as it was situated directly on the site of the old gate ("Tor"), which lead south, direction Carinthia (Kärnten). Today’s Hotel Sacher is located on this site, opposite the opera house (inaugurated in 1869). The wall and the town gate have long since disappeared. For obvious reasons, Eduard Sacher named his establishment Hotel de l’Opera.
