Hotel Sacher Wien 1960S-John_Lennon_Yoko-Ono
The Sacher wasn’t just for “conventional” events like royal dinners. John Lennon made the headlines with his wife Yoko on the occasion of their ORF (Austrian) television shocker “Rape.” They gave a press conference in a room at the Sacher, lying in a double bed. Giving a press conference in such a position was a great way to launch their film. Slogans such as “stay in bed” or “it‘s spring” were called out from under the bedclothes. Their “bed in” soon became world-famous. The Viennese artist André Heller, who together with other journalists interviewed the pair through the bed sheets, was just as surprised as his colleagues.
