The Ritz Madrid opened its doors in 1910.
"Ritz". This is more than a name. It is a synonym for quality, for excellence, an euphemism for a world beyond the reach of the average man in the street. It conjures up distant imaginations of glitter and glamour, wrapped in silken sheets and hand woven linen. It stands for walking on thick sound-swallowing Persian carpets, dining from bone China plates, the clinking of heavy crystal glass, chiming silver.
Since 1910 the Ritz in Madrid represents all this.

Mucho más que un nombre. Sinónimo de calidad y excelencia y eufemismo que describe un mundo fuera del alcance del común de los mortales. Un término que evoca sueños lejanos de esplendor y glamour, envueltos en sábanas de seda y lino tejido a mano. Significa pasear sobre extensas y gruesas alfombras persas, comer en platos de porcelana fina, escuchar el tintineo del cristal y la plata…
Desde 1910, el Ritz de Madrid representa todo esto.

1950s-garden party
The Ritz Garden is still the most elegant venue in Madrid. In the 1950s it was the perfect party-ground. The band playing in the background was called Los Vagabundos.

1955-hussein-dinner
On 7. June 1955 Franco gave a dinner for King Hussein of Jordan, who loved the hotel. He returned in 1991 for a conference, and stayed again at the Ritz.

1965-princess_sophia
On 14 May 1962, Princess Sophia of Greece and Denmark married Prince Juan Carlos of Spain, the future king, whom she met on a cruise of the Greek Islands in 1954. Here she is seen at the Ritz in 1965, served a cup of tea by Alberto Danzberger.

On 10 April 1950 the daughter of the Generalisimo, Maria del Carmen, married the Marques de Villaverde. The catering of the party was in the capable hands of the Ritz.
