M. Statler, the creator of The Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers , chose what was in 1922 known as Providence Street, due to the great “ location, location, location .” 1927, March: hotel opened: a living monument to its creator E.M.Statler, rated by his peers as the greatest hotelier of the 20th century.- a hotel should be something of a museum- he felt.. continues to attract heads of state, celebrities and world travelers... The venerable Boston Park Plaza Hotel and Towers, opened in March of 1927 remains a living monument to its creator, E.M. Statler, rated by his peers as the greatest hotelier of the 20th Century. From lobby to guest rooms, a hotel, he felt, "should be something of a museum, exposing the traveler, perhaps for the first time, to excellence in art," words he carried through in the grand design of all public space. With radio in its infancy, and plumbing technology yet to be, the Statler was the first hotel to have a radio and cold running water in every room. Called a "city within a city" upon opening, today it takes pride in continuing the tradition, serving Boston as a destination itself with some of the city's most famous restaurants and lounges. The Palm Room entrance has been transformed into the elegant Swans Court in the Grand Lobby, and the Hotel Library, once stocked with 3,000 books, has become the unique Hancock function room, as the hotel transforms to serve the public in the tradition of a fine Boston landmark.
