Grand Hotel Bellevue, Gstaad

The house was built by the Grand Hotel Bellevue und Kurhaus AG in 1913 and 1914. Upon completion, World War I. broke out and international travel came to a standstill in central Europe.

The hotel really picked up after the war, and we do have records of a very successful operation starting in 1922.

The house was built by the Grand Hotel Bellevue und Kurhaus AG in 1913 and 1914. In autumn 1922, it was leased to Fritz and Margrit Oesch-Zbinden. The deal was signed by the governing board with the expression of the hope to be successful for both parties and that Fritz Oesch would be able to lead the hotel into a brighter future. It did not take a long time that the work of Margrit and Fritz Oesch was so successful that they could take the risk to buy the hotel. The Hotel director became the owner of the hotel at the age of 32, in 1925. In the following years the house got more modern and apartments were built for higher standard requests. A Billiard room, a bar and the Restaurant français were realised. All these modifications were the secret of the pleasant atmosphere of the elegant hotel where the guests felt well. In 1933, Fritz Oesch took over the leasing of the Station Buffet in Thun. After this, the Hotel has been directed by different directors. Since June 9, 2001, Thomas Straumann, entrepreneur from Basle, is owner of the Grand Hotel Bellevue. During 15 months the total renovation and rebuilding was realised in the aim to maintain the old substance. On December 6, 2002 it was reopened as a luxury 5-stars hotel. Since July 2003 the great Wellness-Center (2'500 m²) has been opened. Only 9 months after reopening in 2002 the Grand Hotel Bellevue was named "GaultMillau Hotel of the Year 2003", an exceptional award and one that obliges us to maintain very high standards. On December 16, 2005 the hotel opened an additional 22 new rooms and modern, state of the art conference facilities occupying approx. 200 sq.m.
Several famous people were coming to the Grand Hotel Bellevue, among others the Queen Juliana of the Netherlands and the late Turkish President Bourgiba. Also Scottish celebrities and world known musicians who were in Gstaad for the Menuhin Festival chose the Bellevue to be their favourite place to stay. Swiss Federal and National Counsellors liked this hotel very much and several sessions of the National Council commissions were held there.
